Downtown Duo
If it's happening downtown, chances are Don and Sue Brawley are there! This dynamic duo thrives on living in Lufkin. Sue laughs, "We love the Downtown Bistro, the Lufkin Landscape Taskforce Gala and even the Christmas parade. If it happens downtown, chances are we’ll be there." Sue says Don, a retired Army veteran, even rides in the annual Veterans Parade each November.
Noonday onions, sweet corn, monster geraniums! Expect the 'pick of the crop' year 'round at the Angelina County Farmer's Market. A beautiful gazebo graces the wooded grounds—perfect for a picnic, party or family reunion. Open seven days a week. Hours and produce vary by season.
The Brawleys came to Lufkin on a job assignment then moved away—but they deliberately chose Lufkin for retirement. Don laughs, "Retirement is almost a full time job. Between our volunteer activities, our dance club, church involvement and a couple of rounds of golf each week, we don't have much time to 'retire'!" It's their active nature and giving spirits that make Don and Sue Brawley the model for happy, engaged retirement living in Lufkin. Lufkin provided them the opportunities.
